Entre las millares
de cosas en español que se prestan en las bibliotecas, hay
videos y DVDs de cine clásico y contemporáneo; casetes de
música, libros grabados, y para estudiar inglés; revistas,
periódicos, y por supuesto un chorro de libros para todas
las edades y todos los gustos. |
Among the thousands of Spanish-language items you can
borrow at libraries are videos and DVDs of classic and
contemporary films; audio cassettes of music, recorded
books, and English instruction; magazines, newspapers, and
of course a whole lot of books for all ages and for every
taste. |

are quite a few around here who can manage pretty well in
Spanish and are ready to serve you. |

credencial de usuario, a través de un trámite sencillo e
indoloro. Por lo general, uno sólo necesita comprobar su
dirección de residencia en California por medio de un
pedazo de correo o, si la tengas, una licencia de manejar
o talón de cheque que muestre tu domicilio, y ya. |
To be able to borrow things from the library, you just
have to apply for your card. It's a simple and
painless process. Generally, you simply need to
verify your residential address in California using a
piece of mail or, if you have it, a driver's license or
check stub that shows your address. With that,
you're all set. |

Una buena noticia
para los mexicanos es que la biblioteca municipal de Los
Ángeles ya acepta el Certificado de Matrícula Consular, la
tarjeta de identificación expedida por el Consulado, como
el único requerimiento para obtener una credencial de
biblioteca. |
Good news for Mexicans is that the Los Angeles Public
Library now accepts the Consular Identification Card,
issued by the Mexican Consulate, as entirely valid all by
itself for obtaining a library card. |

Esta tarjeta—tu
library card—es la llave que te abre los acervos del
sistema en sus 67 sucursales. La puedes usar dondequiera,
siempre y cuando la biblioteca sea filial del sistema
municipal. El del Condado es otro rollo, con 88 sucursales
y unos cuantos bibliobuses. Mucha gente trae las tarjetas
de ambos. |
Your library card is the key that opens up the collections
of the whole system in all of its 67 different libraries.
You can use it anywhere, as long as you're in a library
that's part of the city system. The LA County system
is something else, with 88 libraries and a handful of
bookmobiles. Many people carry cards for both
library systems. |
